By connecting the rails of a train track, railroad crossTies allow the train to proceed safely along its route. They anchor one rail securely to the other and keep them running parallel.

In a similar way, CrossTies connect our thoughts, attitudes and behaviors with the heart of Jesus. As our lives line up with His, we can move forward on a new secure track in safety, with direction, passion and power.

These CrossTies embody the eight principles of the Beatitudes, the opening words of Jesus’ first recorded sermon. The Beatitudes are foundational for all of His teachings.

While we expend energy to lay these CrossTies into our experience, we need God to supply the power. Our blood, sweat and tears help lay the track, but the God train is what will get us where we want to be.

All our own efforts get us nowhere without Him. We cannot change ourselves, but He is willing and able to change us as we turn to Him.

The beams of the Beatitudes are for connection and support. Allowing them to be laid into our lives connects us securely with Jesus and with those who follow Him.

Railroad crossties are heavy. Putting the beams in place is not a one-man job. We need help to position them well. These CrossTies are most effectively worked into our lives with the assistance of others. 

Day by day, these CrossTies will move us further into Kingdom territory. By applying these words of Jesus, we will find power, peace and a life worth living. The Beatitudes take us to the cross and beyond – to freedom and joy.

Jesus’ invitation is to all – If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. – Luke 9:23
